Expanding your child’s play
“Mum, I’m BORED. I don’t know what to do!” Please tell me you relate? COVID Lockdown 2.0 probably isn’t helping!
I know this as a Speech Pathologist but I’d forgotten this as a Mum! Sometimes kids just need some ideas laid out to help their play along, rather than us groaning, “Just go and play.”
Thankfully this week I was reminded to try this, thanks to @sound.adventures. So want to know what I did to sustain the kids interest and attention for a LONG time? Setup a PLAY MAT!! 🥳🤩
It took literally 2minutes to set up and my 4 and 6 year old LOVED it. Plus my speechie brain LOVES that this setup promotes a language rich environment AND expands their creativity and play skills.
We included:
🔸 Foam road map to help create a city
🔸 A book with a related theme beside to further their play ideas
🔸 People figurines so they could role play
🔸 Blocks so construction could occur (they decided to build the Eiffel Tower --- love their taste!)
🔸 Lots of random “things” to encourage pretend play and expand that imagination. We included rocks, flowers, material and paper straws.
Any one else tried this?
