7 last minute things to do to prepare your child for starting school
Thereโs only a few days left of holidays. Hereโs our tried and tested, MUST do last minute things to do over the next few days to help ready your child for school.
๐ Use lunchboxes NOW - practise opening tricky containers and bottles.๐๐ฅ
๐ Practise self care - help your child take items of clothing off and put them back on (practise zips, buttons, velcro shoes). Practise bathroom hygiene too (wiping and washing) ๐ฉ๐ฆ
๐ Play date - have a one on one play date or go to the park / beach, where there are other children. Kids will learn to negotiate, share, take turns, get along with others and have fun! Exactly what will occur in the playground at school.
๐ Label feelings - talk about how youโre feeling and how others may be feeling. Help your child to notice others facial expressions and body language. This will help them socially and emotionally.
๐ When doing anything new or tricky, encourage your child to try a few times first before asking for help from others. This will help their independence and perseverance; which is also helpful when teachers and adults have their hands busy.
๐ Start to get back into a night routine that works for your family. One that is calming at the end of the day. Allow plenty of time to rest and recover!
